The Horse Diaries Series by various authors

***** 5 Stars

I enjoyed reading all ten books in the Horse Diaries series this year because I love horses.  (p.s. I could not hold all 10 of them).  Maestoso Petra was my favorite book in the Horse Diaries series because it is about a Lipizzaner and that is my favorite type of horse.

Starry River of the Sky by Grace Lin

****1/2    4.5 Stars

I was excited to read Starry River of The Sky because I enjoyed Where the Mountain Meets the Moon, also written by Grace Lin.
I  would recommend this book to my friends who have read and enjoyed Where the Mountain Meets the Moon because the characters in these books are similar.  For example, the main characters, Minli and Randy, are both very strong minded and left their homes to do something very brave.

Where the Mountain Meets the Moon by Grace Lin

***** 5 stars

I love this book!  Where the Mountain Meets the Moon is a fantasy story about a girl named Minli.  She wants to meet the Old Man of the Moon so that he can change her village's fortune.  Minli's family and neighbors are very poor and eat plain rice everyday.  She hopes the Old Man can tell her how she can grow fruit on Fruitless Mountain so that her village can have enough to eat.  Along the way, she meets Dragon who hopes the Old Man can help him fly.  Minli invites him to join her.  Dragon couldn't travel on the rope bridge to Never Ending Mountain because he was too heavy.  So Minli went alone to ask the Old Man their questions.  The Old Man said she could only ask one.  She decided to ask Dragon's question instead of her own.  Dragon was able to fly because of Minli's unselfishness.  Fruitless Mountain turned green and grew fruit again because Dragon returned.  They lived happily ever after.
I recommend this book to my friends because it teaches a lesson about kindness.  It is also really interesting, I was not able to put the book down once I started reading it!
